Spring sees the return of longer days and extra light which has an uplifting effect on the mood however these environmental changes can trigger extra sensitivity to the skin causing irritation and a recurrence of allergic skin conditions.

Halotherapy, is using steam is an integral part of your skincare routine, with most benefits gained by practicing a minimum of once a week as a self-care routine before sleep.

Salt steam inhalation can be used as a meditation in mindful breathing as the ionic air circulates through your senses, warming and softening the skin removing impurities and drawing out bacteria from under the surface of the skin in a gentle moist air bath.

This mix of hand picked air dried lavender buds, rosemary and pine with Epsom salts will immediately clear the senses, promoting a calming and balancing experience. I prefer to use dried plant matter so the water can rehydrate the buds and deliver the true fresh essence, immersing the skin and senses and surrounding you with the environmental balance of the season ,

Spring deep steam has been made in a batch of approximately 10 jars and has a shelf life of 12 months once opened. It comes in a cotton bag with a bamboo spoon for use with a detailed leaflet on how to use and delivered in recycled packaging.

Start with clean skin.

Boil approximately a cup full of water or enough to fill a medium size ceramic or glass bowl.

Place your bowl onto a folded towel on a table or somewhere you can sit comfortably with your face over the steam and add a teaspoon of salt infusion.

Pour the boiling water into the bowl dissolving the salt and hydrating the buds.

Lean over the bowl keeping your face a minimum of 12 inches or 30 centimetres’ away from the water and drape a towel over your head creating a little tent to keep in the steam. The steam should feel soothing and not too hot. If it feels uncomfortable then adjust your head higher away from the bowl. Keep your eyes open as the steam will also moisten the eyes and soften the oil ducts around the eyes.

Sit over the steam for 5 minutes and build up to 10 to 15 as you feel comfortable breathing in and out of the nose.

After the steam gently wipe away the perspiration with a clean cloth and then cool with hydrosol to regulate ph levels and massage skin with facial oil and drink a glass of water.
